cassie and the frog

this isn't exactly a fort happening, more of a casa de cassie happening (saga really) but i think you can sympathize with my trauma, ahhdity.

i heard a Noise in the wee hours. a Noise loud enough to startle me awake.

the weird thing about waking up from sleep because of a Noise is that sometimes at first you’re not sure if you really heard Something or Not. sometimes Noises just become part of my dream until i wake up and realize the sound is not in my dream but actually part of my surroundings.

i got up to Investigate. my initial thought was that i had left a can of lime diet coke in the freezer (to chill) and that it had exploded. i was pretty sure i had taken it out but i checked anyway. nothing there.

i checked the suspension rod. still up.

i looked around to see if anything had fallen over, to see if anything was out of place that could explain the Noise. nothing.

then i thought maybe it had come from next door. maybe the Noise hadn't come from within my apartment at all.

i went back to bed and maybe 15 or 20 minutes later...the Noise. this time clearly coming from the bathroom attached to my bedroom. uh oh. what in the world could it be? i thought maybe it was a frog. that would explain the Noise better than the thought that a bottle of shampoo was repeatedly falling over. but a frog in my bathroom? how could it be?

i turned on the light and looked around. nothing. then i slowly and cautiously approached the shower. while standing back as far as i could and still grab the top of the shower curtain, i slowly began to slide it over.

and then i saw it.

the source of the Noise.

it
was
a
frog.

a large, dark, green frog. large.

did i ever tell you that i won second place in a frog jumping contest in fourth grade? yes. i had long elbow-length gardening gloves on the whole time. no way was i touching my frog with my bare hands.

poor chris campbell. he had collected like seven frogs but when he opened his shoebox to get one out, he discovered that every last one of them was dead. they'd all been knifed. apparently he had punched the air holes in the lid of the box while the frogs were inside. i know this is tragic (for the frogs. and maybe for campbell) but c'mon, that's hilarious.

where did he come from!!!???

i decided i would get the frog to the bottom of the tub and cover him with a towel and then gather the towel together and take it outside. brilliant! i wouldn't be able to see the captured frog (which was a bonus over the plastic bowl idea) and i wouldn't be able to feel the frog (a bonus over capturing it with my gloved hands). all i needed was for the frog to get on board with the plan.

which he did eventually. with much cajoling.

anyway, here’s to the frog having a long and happy life of outdoor living. i’m sure i’ll recover some day from the trauma. i’m hoping that sharing will help exorcise the experience from my mind. he was very large and very green.

green’s not so bad. kermit’s green. kermit’s a frog. kermit’s alright. damon’s a frog. damon’s alright. maybe frogs are alright. they’re just better when they’re outside.

do you see many frogs in india?

i may never sleep again.

Gosh!! That tragic. Brought back some memories of the trauma I faced with a frog in my bathroom, couple of months back!

Anyways, I am back and I am really looking fwd to see you and catch up with all the other stories. Though I am too tired from the journey and homesickness is already kicking in :(. I am missing my family a lot and I really wish I had more time to spend with them.

I didn't see any frogs this time around. Usually they are out in the monsoon season which is around May-Aug.

Rest later alligator.... see you tomorrow.

I too found a frog in my shower last week. I felt weird about mentioning it, but since we're sharing...

I got up last Thursday morning - groggy-eyed but somewhat vertical. Got in the shower - with my back to the nozzle (how else can you wash your hair?) - washed hair, rinsed hair, applied conditioner. Then turned around to wash off my face - opened my eyes only to be face to face with Mr. Light Olive Green frog. Poor fella was squished as tightly as possible into the corner - his eyes all buggy and freaked out looking. He was scared of me so I tried to be gentle and moved slowly but eventually the steam made him lose his grip and he plopped down and scurried to a safer corner of the shower.

I left him in the shower and used it as a tactic to get the kids out of bed and moving for the day. It really didn't take much other than - hey guys, guess what? There's a frog in the shower. We gently gathered Mr. O-G-F and released him out our front door.

I love frogs and in fact had a large collection that I gathered and lovingly housed in an open topped large metal bucket when I was a little girl. They didn't seem to like my relocation, and ultimately all moved out. Oh well! I still consider Kermit to be one of my closest friends!

kermit is awesome. i always wanted one of those kermit dolls for my car.

if what had happened to you, sheri, had happened to me, i think i would have been injured in my efforts to escape.

my mom told me once that she used to put frogs in people's mailboxes...that's...kind of odd. i would never have suspected it of her. i think she was very young at the time.
